Florida Flame News Release

Fort Myers, Fla., January 21 - The Florida Flame have acquired guard Tim Pickett from the National Basketball Development League player pool, according to an announcement today by NBDL director of basketball operations Chris Alpert and Flame Head Coach Dennis Johnson. Picket fills the roster spot vacated by Smush Parker, who was called-up to the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday.

Picket joins the Flame organization after being released from the New Orleans Hornets earlier this season. He was a second round pick in the 2004 NBA Draft out of Florida State.

"We are bringing in a player that will hopefully add to the offensive and especially the defensive aspects of our game," said Head Coach Dennis Johnson. "He is an open court player and can play really good man-to-man defense. He is a slasher who will drive to the hoop and create offensive opportunities."

Pickett was named a First Team All-ACC and All-Defensive member as a senior, joining Bob Sura as the only Florida State players to earn that honor. He finished his career as the school?s all-time leader in three-point field goals made per game average (3.1) and ranks 33rd on the all-time scoring list with 1,038 points. Pickett played the final two years of his career at Florida State after starting at Daytona Beach Community College in 1999-2000.

During his senior season at F.S.U., Pickett averaged a team-leading 16.5 points (ranking fourth in the ACC) and pulled down 4.5 rebounds per contest. He ranked third in the nation in three-point field goals made (110) and tied for 10th in total steals (82). He led the team in scoring 18 times.

"We felt that Tim was a player who we could not pass on and hope he will bring added offense and defense to the team. He should see immediate playing time for us."

Pickett, who will wear jersey #22, is expected to play on Sunday night against Fayetteville. He is expected to be available for interviews at the scheduled shoot-a-round on Sunday morning at Germain Arena. Media access begins at 10:30 a.m.

Also in attendance for Sunday's game will be the Honorable Major Jim Humphrey, the Mayor of Fort Myers. Mayor Humphrey will address the crowd during team introductions and perform a ceremonial tip before the game.
