
Flash Forward Abby Wambach Voted NWSL Player of the Week

CHICAGO - Western New York Flash forward Abby Wambach was voted the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) Player of the Week by the media for Week 9 of the 2013 NWSL season.
Wambach, 32, had a goal and an assist in the Flash's 3-0 victory over Sky Blue FC on June 8. The Rochester, N.Y. native set up teammate Samantha Kerr for the first goal of the game in the 4th minute before securing all three points in the 82nd with the third and final score of the contest for the Flash.
The win took Western New York to third in the standings and extended the team's unbeaten run (4-0-1) to five games.
Wambach now leads the NWSL with six goals to go along with two assists on the season and is the first player to twice be voted the NWSL Player of the Week after also claiming the accolade for Week 5.
The Western New York Flash will return to action Saturday, June 11 at 7 p.m. ET against the Washington Spirit at the Maryland Soccerplex in Boyds, Md.
Wambach is currently training with the U.S. Women's National Team in preparation for a pair of international friendlies against the Korea Republic on June 15 at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass. and June 20 at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J.
The NWSL Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a selection of journalists that cover the league on a consistent basis.
