Utah Flash News Release
PROVO, Utah, Jan. 10, 2008 - The Utah Flash acquired the rights to former NBA and University of Utah forward Britton Johnsen from the Bakersfield Jam for guard Michael Cuffee, Flash general manager David Fredman announced today.
This is Johnsen's second stint in the D-League. He played 34 games for the Fayetteville Patriots in 2003-04, averaging 31.1 minutes, 14.6 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game before being called up by the Orlando Magic. He was a second-team All-D-League selection that season.
"Britton is a consummate pro and gives us somebody who knows how to play, is long and can shoot on the wing. We believe he is a perfect fit for what we are trying to do," Fredman said. "We appreciate the way Michael Cuffee played and handled himself as a member of the Flash and know he will continue to play well."
In 26 NBA games over two seasons with Orlando and Indiana, Johnsen averaged 14.5 minutes, 2.1 points and 2.1 rebounds. He has also played professionally in Spain, Greece and France.
Johnsen earned Player of the Year in the Mountain West Conference as a Ute junior at in 2001-02 after averaging 12.6 points and 6.3 rebounds. A three-year starter who earned First or Second Team All-Mountain West Conference recognition three times, he averaged 11.6 points and 6.7 rebounds in an injury and illness-riddled senior season at Utah. The 6-10, 210-pound Johnsen played his prep basketball at Murray (Utah) High School.
Johnsen is expected to be in a Flash uniform on Friday when Utah is host to the Fort Wayne Mad Ants at 7 p.m. MT. He will wear jersey number 23.
