Five SEC Players to Join Mainers in 2021

SANFORD, Maine - The Sanford Mainers announced today their first five new player signings for the 2021 season.

Calvin Hewett (Vanderbilt), Hunter Owen (Vanderbilt), Will Pearson (Georgia), Louis Stallone (Arkansas) and Liam Sullivan (Georgia) will take the field at Goodall Park this summer for the Mainers.

Hewett is a freshman outfielder for the Commodores from Greenland, N.H. In ten games for Vanderbilt this season Hewett has two hits, both doubles, with three RBI and three runs scored. At Portsmouth High in New Hampshire, Hewett was the top-ranked outfielder in the state where he held a .331 average with 42 RBI and 59 runs scored in his career.

Owen is a freshman pitcher for the Commodores, and returning to his home state of Maine for the summer. The South Portland native has made three appearances on the mound for Vanderbilt, throwing 4.1 innings with five strikeouts and only giving up two hits. At South Portland High, Owen was the top-ranked player in the state and had a 0.17 ERA in his junior year with 59 strikeouts in 34 innings.

Pearson is a freshman pitcher for the Bulldogs from Watkinsville, Ga. In his rookie year for Georgia, Pearson has made eleven appearances and only given up five runs. In 15.2 innings, he has struck out eleven, as well as notching a win and a save to his record. Pearson was a Co-Region Pitcher of the Year at North Oconee High in 2019 where he held a 1.71 ERA and 55 strikeouts in 45 innings that season.

Stallone is a freshman pitcher for the Razorbacks from Kings Park, N.Y. Stallone hasn't made any appearances in a game yet for Arkansas, but at St. Anthony's High he was the No. 8 ranked right-hander in the state and 15th overall ranked prospect in the class of 2020.

Sullivan is a freshman pitcher for the Bulldogs, where he has made seven appearances in his first season. Over 12.1 innings, Sullivan has 14 strikeouts and has given up eight runs. He also holds a 1-0 record with one save on a 5.84 ERA. A graduate of Marist High in Sandy Springs, Ga., Sullivan racked up ten wins in 2019 with a 1.41 ERA, 78 strikeouts and 51 innings pitched.
