Five-Run Sixth Lifts Biscuits, 6-3

Montgomery Biscuits News Release

CHATTANOOGA, Ten. - The Biscuits (1-0) captured their second-straight Opening Night victory with a memorable come-from-behind win to kickstart their 2019 campaign, 6-3, over the Chattanooga Lookouts (0-1) on Thursday night at AT&T Field. The victory was first-year manager Morgan Ensberg's first for the club.

Montgomery, which was just 4-11 on Opening Nights in team history entering Thursday, didn't waste any time opening up the scoring, drawing back-to-back walks against Lookouts starter Tejay Anton (0-1) before Dalton Kelly knocked in Lucius Fox with an RBI-single to make it 1-0 Butter and Blue before an out had been recorded.

Phoenix Sanders opened for the Biscuits and put up two scoreless innings before handing the ball to Arturo Reyes (1-0). The Lookouts would tie the game at one in the fourth, courtesy of a Courtney Hawkins RBI-single, and then untied it with a TJ Friedl RBI-triple that made it 2-1 Chattanooga in the same inning. The Lookouts would add a third run on an RBI-groundout by Tyler Stephenson in the fifth.

Things were looking dire in the top of the sixth with one on and two outs, and the Biscuits down two, but Brendan McKay injected some life into the squad with a towering RBI-double off the top of the left field wall pull Montgomery within one at 3-2.

Anton then exited the game and handed things off to lefty reliever Ty Boyles (0-1). The Quartz Hill, CA native came on to face Miles Mastrobuoni, who destroyed one of the southpaw's mistakes, crushing it over the high wall in straight-away center for an improbable go-ahead two-run homer. The moonshot that put the Biscuits up 4-3 was only Mastrobuoni's fifth career home run in over three years of pro ball. The Biscuits would tack on two more runs thanks to an Alfredo Rodriguez throwing error, and the two-out five-spot was complete.

The Biscuits bullpen rook care of the rest, with Dalton Moats, Jose Disla, and Ian Gardeck all shining, tossing a combined four scoreless innings the rest of the way. Moats struck out four over two innings, Disla two over one, a Gardeck the side in the bottom of the ninth.

Montgomery will try to make it two in a row to begin 2019 on Friday when LHP Josh Fleming takes on RHP Tony Santillan at 6:15 PM CT.

The Biscuits return to Riverwalk Stadium for a five-game home stand against the Biloxi Shuckers on Wednesday, April 10 for Opening Night presented by Chick-Fil-A featuring Dueling Pianos and MAX Fireworks. The home stand will also feature a Club Car Bar T-Shirt giveaway on Thursday, April 11, Teacher Appreciation Night and MAX Fireworks on Friday, April 12, Mardi Gras Night and MAX Fireworks on Saturday April 13, and Jackie Robinson Day featuring a Kids T-Shirt Giveaway presented by AKD.
