SERIES PRIMER: The Generals visit Jacksonville (AA-Miami Marlins) to open in 2019, and they won't see them again until the final series of the year at home. Last year, the Generals went 8-2 against the Jumbo Shrimp, winning four of five in each skirmish en route to winning the 2018 Southern League Title.

LAST GAME RECAP: 'Twas the night before Opening Day, and all through the Generals' Jacksonville hotel, not a player was stirring, not even infielder Marty Herum. The 27-year-old from River Falls, Wisconsin was fast asleep in his bed, dreaming of last September, as well as the season ahead. Herum had scored the game-winning run in the Generals' championship victory over Biloxi last fall; in fact, he made the game-winning assist, too, becoming second-last to touch the ball. Where Herum's baseball journey would take him this year, he hardly knew. His thoughts drifted toward the field, seeing the would fresh-cut grass beaded with dew. Onward to 2019!

HITTING NUGGETS

*In their final game with the Visalia Rawhide (September 14, 2018), current Generals Jazz Chisholm, Drew Ellis, Daulton Varsho, Marcus Wilson, and Pavin Smith batted second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth in the lineup.

*Fourth-year Southern Leaguer Jamie Westbrook has 331 career hits in the SL between Mobile and Jackson. His manager, Blake Lalli, collected 378 during his SL career with the Tennessee Smokies.

PITCHING NUGGETS

*Jackson pitching coach Doug Drabek helped set a franchise record in strikeouts (1,300) in 2018. Nine 2018 Generals pitchers return: Ryan Atkinson, Justin Donatella, Kevin Ginkel, Bud Jeter, Sam Lewis, Tyler Mark, Mason McCullough, Bo Takahashi & Emilio Vargas.

*Right-hander Justin Donatella finished 2018 with a run of seven consecutive quality starts, including a 27.0 IP run-free streak.
