Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Brandon, Manitoba -- The Brandon Wheat Kings collected five of a possible six points this past week to climb back to within the Eastern Division leaders in the Western Hockey League.

The Wheat Kings entered this week's ADT Canada Russia Challenge break by scoring a dramatic 5-4 Overtime victory over the first place Blades in Saskatoon on Saturday night. Scott Glennie's third goal of the game - at the 12 second mark of the extra session - lifted Brandon to the win, to improve their record to 14-9-1-1 on the season.

With the win, the Wheat Kings pulled to within six points of the Blades, with a game in hand. As well, Brandon enters this week's break trailing second place Regina by four and third place Swift Current by three. The Wheat Kings currently have four games in hand on the Pats and have played two fewer games than Swift Current.

Saturday's game marked the kick-off to a stretch of games that will see the Wheat Kings play eight of nine games on the road. Brandon's next home game is Saturday, December 6th against the visiting Medicine Hat Tigers.

Next action for the Wheat Kings will be next weekend when they play three games in as many nights, beginning in Lethbridge on Friday. Brandon will then play the Tigers on Saturday before closing out the weekend Sunday night in Calgary against the Eastern Conference leading Hitmen.

Saturday's win came on the heels of Friday's come from behind OT 7-6 Shootout loss to the Kootenay Ice. The Wheat Kings battled back, scoring three third period goals to get the game into overtime. Brandon began the week with an impressive 4-1 victory over the defending Memorial Cup Champion Spokane Chiefs.

Glennie's hat trick on Saturday night propelled the Winnipeg product to the top of the Wheat Kings' scoring race. Through the first 25 games of the season, the former second round bantam draft choice has fifteen goals and 29 points, followed by Brayden Schenn (11-17-28) and Jay Fehr (8-17-25). Both Glennie and Schenn are eligible for the 2009 National Hockey League Entry Draft.

While the Wheat Kings prepare for what will be a busy weekend this coming week, three members of the club will be off to Swift Current where they will suit up for the WHL All Stars on Wednesday night. Captain Keith Aulie will be joined by Schenn and 19-year old right-winger Matt Calvert.

Tickets to Brandon's December home games - Dec. 6th vs. Medicine Hat; Dec. 13th vs. Prince Albert; Dec. 17th vs. Lethbridge and Dec. 27th vs. Regina are on sale now at the Keystone Centre box office. Fans can also order by phone at 726-3555 or online at ticketmaster.ca.
