Five Gladiators Called Up To AHL Chicago

The Gwinnett Gladiators announced today that several players have been reassigned or recalled to the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League. The Gladiators season concluded with a 2-0 loss to the South Carolina Stingrays in Game 5 of the Division Semifinals.

Forwards Guillaume Desbiens and Tomas Pospisil as well as defenseman Chad Denny, all under contract to the Thrashers, have been reassigned from Gwinnett to Chicago by the Thrashers. The Wolves also recalled forward Mike Hamilton who is under contract in Chicago and had been assigned to Gwinnett all season as well as forward Matt Anderson.

Desbiens spent the beginning of the 2007-08 season in Chicago where he played in 23 games notching 2 goals and 1 assist. The Alma, PQ native was assigned to Gwinnett on March 1st. He played in 10 games for the Gladiators tallying 2 goals and 5 assists. He added 3 goals and 6 assists for 9 points to lead the Gladiators in scoring in the post season in 8 playoff games.

Pospisil also started the season in Chicago scoring 2 points on 2 assists in 11 games before being assigned to Gwinnett on November 22. Pospisil tallied 42 points on 18 goals and 24 assists in 54 games for the Gladiators as well as adding 2 goals and 5 assists in 8 games in the post season.

Denny split time this season between Chicago and Gwinnett. He tallied 2 goals and 4 assists in 11 total games for Chicago and 7 goals and 6 assists in 48 games in Gwinnett.

Hamilton spent the entire season in Gwinnett where he played in all 72 regular season games notching 23 goals and 26 assists for 49 points. He also added 2 goals and 6 assists in the postseason for the Gladiators.

Anderson also split time between Chicago and Gwinnett this season with one goal and one assist in 14 games with AHL Chicago. Anderson played in 37 games with Gwinnett in the regular season and tallied 14 goals and 14 assists. He also 3 goals and 2 assists in 8 playoff games.

The Chicago Wolves continue in the Calder Cup playoffs after earning a 4-games-to-2 series win over the Milwaukee Admirals in the first round. The Wolves will now take on the Rockford Ice Hogs in the AHL West Division Finals.

All the Gwinnett players recalled or reassigned should be available for the Wolves when they host the Ice Hogs on Thursday night to open the series.

Celebrating its 20th Anniversary as the Premier 'AA' Hockey League in 2007-08, the ECHL began in 1988-89 with five teams in three states and has grown to be a coast-to-coast league that has 25 teams in 17 states and British Columbia in 2007-08. The 25 teams includes the Mississippi (Biloxi) Sea Wolves, who return after missing two seasons in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, and the expansion Elmira (N.Y.) Jackals. The ECHL will play 900 games beginning Oct. 18 and concluding Apr. 5.
