Charlotte Checkers News Release
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - General manager and head coach of the Charlotte Checkers, Derek Wilkinson, announced today that assistant coach, Allan Egeland will not return to the team next season.
Egeland was the assistant coach for the Checkers during the previous four seasons. The former National Hockey League draft pick of the Tampa Bay Lightning helped guide the Checkers to four straight Kelly Cup Playoff appearances as assistant coach. He began his coaching career with Charlotte as a player/assistant coach during the 2004-2005 season. Egeland will move on to pursue other options in hockey. The team has no plans on filling the position of assistant coach at this time.
"We wish Allan and his family all the best in their future endeavors. He was certainly a tremendous asset to our organization," said Wilkinson.
Also, team athletic trainer, Dennis Brogna has officially retired from professional hockey. The Checkers search for a new trainer will begin immediately.
The Checkers completed their 15th season of play as a member of the ECHL. In the team's 15-year history, the Checkers have made the playoffs 11 times including four consecutive playoff appearances to date. Season tickets are on sale now with full-season packages starting at just $396. For season ticket information, please call 704-342-4-ICE or visit www.gocheckers.com.
