Great Falls Voyagers News Release

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (July 20, 2014) -The Great Falls Voyagers got record-setting days from Zach Fisher and Jake Peter, and cruised to a 13-5 victory over the Idaho Falls Chukars Sunday afternoon at Melaleuca Field to snap their three-game losing streak.

After a scoreless first inning on both sides, the Voyagers (19-14) opened the afternoon's scoring in the top of the second. The first two hitters in the frame walked against starter Jake Newberry (3-1), and Louie Lechich got the scoring started with an RBI double. Hunter Jones followed a few batters later with a two-run double, before Peter and Fisher got their big days going with run-producing doubles of their own.

Idaho Falls (18-15) pulled two back in the third, but Great Falls then put together another five-run frame in the fourth. Fisher came up with the bases loaded, and promptly emptied them with a double to right-center. Later in the frame, Zach Stoner and John Ziznewski picked up RBI singles, to make it a 10-2 contest.

The Voyagers then completed their offensive barrage with three more in the fifth. Fisher drove in two more with a single to give him six RBIs for the game, tying the Voyager era (2008-present) record for RBIs in a single game. He then scored later in the inning on an error to give Great Falls their 13th run of the contest, tying the club's season-high.

The Chukars chased Matt Ball with two in the fifth, and Great Falls then brought in Matt Cooper (2-1) who retired all four he faced to collect his second win of the year.

With the game well in hand in the ninth, Peter came to the plate for the sixth time and doubled off Chukar reliever Brandon Thomas for his fifth hit of the game, and fourth double. With that hit, Peter tied the Voyager era record for hits in a single game, and also gave the club 18 for the day, which set a new season-high.

The Voyagers and Chukars continue their four-game series Monday night at Melaleuca Field. Great Falls will send right-hander Dane Stone (3-0 1.21) to the mound, while Idaho Falls will turn to fellow righty Mike Jeffreys (0-1, 6.75). First pitch is set for 7:15 and coverage will begin at 7:00 on 1400 AM KXGF and gfvoyagers.com.
