
Fisher Cats Take Series with 5-3 Win in New Britain

NEW BRITAIN, CT- Jack Murphy broke a 3-3 tie with an RBI double in the top of the eighth inning and Deck McGuire worked 7.1 solid innings for his third win as the Fisher Cats topped New Britain 5-3 on Thursday morning in Connecticut.
McGuire (3-1) allowed three unearned runs on seven hits. He walked two and struck out a seasons-best eight hitters. Scott Gracey and Gregory Infante finished up the win, with Infante earning his fifth save with a scoreless ninth.
Michael Crouse (2-for-4, 2 RS, RBI) led off the eighth inning with a walk. He moved to second on a wild pitch and to third on a throwing error on a pickoff attempt. Murphy doubled him home and scored on a single by Jon Berti off losing pitcher Adrian Salcedo (0-3).
The Rock Cats scored first in each game of the series. They plated two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Kennys Vargas doubled home Nate Hanson, who had reached on a fielder's choice. He scored on a single by Daniel Ortiz to put New Britain up 2-0.
New Hampshire (8-10) came back in the top of the second inning. Andy Burns (3-for-5) and Crouse started the frame with singles, moving up on a groundout. Jonathan Jones delivered a two-run single to tie the game at 2-2.
New Britain (5-13) 1B Reynaldo Rodriguez reached on an error to start the bottom of the fourth inning, and the Rock Cats followed with consecutive singles by Aderlin Mejia and Mike Kvasnicka. Rodriguez scored on a fielders choice to make it 3-2.
The Fisher Cats came right back to tie the game at 3-3 in the top of the fifth inning. Brad Glenn, Andy Burns and Michael Crouse put together three consecutive two-out singles, with Glenn scoring on the Crouse hit.
Taylor Rogers, the New Britain starter, allowed three runs in six innings. He had six strikeouts.
The Fisher Cats return home tomorrow night at 6:35 p.m. against the Reading Fightin Phils. The first game of the homestand will feature Atlas Fireworks presented by HYUNDAI.
