New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
NEW BRITAIN, CT - The New Hampshire Fisher Cats got out to an early lead but couldn't sustain it, suffering a 5-1 loss to the New Britain Rock Cats Saturday afternoon at New Britain Stadium in front of 2,536 fans.
The loss was the fourth consecutive for the visitors, dropping New Hampshire to 5-5. New Britain (5-5) got the better of the Fisher Cats for the third consecutive game, dooming New Hampshire to their first series loss of the 2015 season.
New Hampshire struck quickly in the top of the first inning, with first baseman K.C. Hobson looping a single to the outfield to plate Dwight Smith, Jr. and get to New Britain starter Yohan Flande (W, 2-0) early. It was the first time in the series that the Fisher Cats had taken the lead.
However, that would be all the scoring the visitors would do. After a leadoff single by Jayson Langfels in the second, Dean Espy knocked home a run on a double off Fisher Cats starter Mike Lee (L, 0-1), and advanced to third on a single by Abel Baker. On a soft grounder to the right side, Hobson fired wildly home, allowing Espy to score and Baker and Juan Ciriaco to move to second and third. Two batters later, Tyler Massey slashed a two-run single to the outfield, making it 4-1 in favor of New Britain. Mike Tauchman added a fifth-inning RBI single to give New Britain their final lead.
The bullpen did very well for New Hampshire on Saturday, with Greg Burke, Dustin Antolin and Arik Sikula combining for 3.1 innings of scoreless relief. Burke came in with two runners on and stranded them, then followed it with a perfect inning. Antolin and Sikula each allowed hits but didn't allow a run to score in either of their innings of work.
The Fisher Cats will try to avoid a sweep Sunday afternoon from New Britain Stadium. First pitch in New Britain, Conn., is at 1:35 p.m. with Fisher Cats LHP John Anderson getting the ball against New Britain righty Matt Flemer. Radio coverage begins at 1:15 p.m. with Ben Gellman on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network and at www.nhfishercats.com.
The Fisher Cats return home for a seven-game homestand on Thursday, April 23. The stand begins with a Thursday Night Rock 101 DJ and Atlas Fireworks. Curious George and The Man in the Yellow Hat will visit Northeast Dental Dental Stadium during the homestand from April 24-26.
