Baysox Offense Flounders in Third Straight Loss

Bowie, Md. - It was a perfect 75 degree Saturday night for baseball in Bowie. Unfortunately, the outcome was less than perfect for the Baysox as they dropped their third game in a row to Erie 5-2.

After jumping out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning, the Baysox offense stalled, not scoring again until the eighth after having fallen behind by four runs. The Baysox have failed to score more than three runs in each of their three home losses during this series against Erie.

The Baysox struck first against Erie starter Josh Turley after Sean Halton and Mike McDade hit back-to-back two-out doubles. McDade's fifth double of the year put the Baysox up 1-0. McDade has now hit a double in each of the last four games.

The SeaWolves bounced back after Harold Castro hit a lead-off single and then stole second and third base. With two outs, Corey Jones doubled to left field to score a run. Dean Green followed with an RBI single to right field to give Erie a 2-1 lead.

Ashur Tolliver replaced Bundy in the top of the fourth and gave up a lead-off double to James Robbins. He moved over on an Austin Green fly out to right field and Harold Castro brought him home with a single to left field to give Erie a 3-1 lead.

In the top of the fifth inning, Brendan Harris hit a lead-off single to center field and Corey Jones followed with an infield single to second base. With runners on the corners and one out, Casper Wells singled to left field to drive home a run and extend the Erie lead to 4-1.

The SeaWolves struck again in the top of the eighth facing reliever Gene Escat. Wells drew a lead-off walk and Robbins followed with a single. With Austin Green batting, Escat threw a wild pitch moving both runners up. Austin Green finished his at bat with a sacrifice fly to right field to bring home Wells making the score 5-1.

In the bottom of the eighth Edgar de la Rosa took the mound for Erie and Sean Halton hit a lead-off single to center field. After two strikeouts, Chris O'Brien singled to move Halton to third base where he scored on a Jason Esposito single to left field to make the score 5-2.

Dylan Bundy pitched three innings, allowed two runs on four hits while striking out four and walking one in the loss.

LHP Tim Berry (0-1, 8.31) is scheduled to start for the Baysox Sunday as the Baysox play the final game in a four game series against the Erie SeaWolves. He will be opposed by RHP Warwick Saupold (0-0, 13.50).
