June 18, 2016 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Lexington County Blowfish News Release

MARTINSVILLE, V.A. - The Blowfish strung together 4 consecutive base hits with two outs in the top of the ninth inning to cut the Martinsville Mustangs lead to one but couldn't tie the game with bases loaded and two outs.

Martinsville knocked off Lexington County 6-5 at Hooker Field tonight.

The Blowfish didn't register a hit until the 6th inning but held a 1-0 lead into the fourth after Jordan Wren (Georgia Southern) scored on an error by Martinsville's right fielder Jake Long (Northwestern Oklahoma State).

Keyton Gibson (Georgia Tech) held the Mustangs in check through the first three but was roughed up in the 4th when Collin Fleischer (VMI) uncorked a three run home run to left center field. Martinsville added another in the fourth on the Chandler Seagle (Appalachian State) RBI single.

The Mustangs added a run in the fifth and sixth innings and the Blowfish added a run a piece in the sixth and eighth innings. Martinsville led Lexington County 6-3 going into the 9th inning.

The Blowfish began the ninth with a groundout and pop out but strung together four straight singles, two of which brought in runs; one via Wren the other by Nate Blanchard (Charleston Southern).

Chas McCormick (Millersville) walked reloading the bases, giving Adam Renwick (Clemson) an opportunity with the tying run at third. Jamie Lauria (Mercyhurst) got behind on Renwick 3 and 1 but fought back in the count and struck him out on a 3-2 fastball through the heart of the plate.

Lexington County falls to 9-7 on the season and plays two on Monday night in Florence against the RedWolves. Game one of the double header is slated for a 5p.m. start, coverage on z93.1 FM begins at 4:45p.m.
