
'Fish Lose Opener to Barnstormers

(Bridgeport, Conn. - June 14, 2012) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (20-27) suffered a loss to the Lancaster Barnstormers (29-18) by a score of 3-1 at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Thursday Night.
The Barnstormers scored a run in the fifth and sixth innings; Terry Tiffee and Brad Boyer drove in runs for the road team, in those frames. Bridgeport scored the teams' only run of the night on a fielders' choice grounder by Kennard Jones to the shortstop with the bases loaded. Tommy Everidge added an insurance run with a solo drive to left in the eighth. His fifth shot of the season accounted for the final run of the night.
Luis Lopez and Luis Rodriguez each collected two hits on the night for the Bluefish.
Bridgeport starter, Gilbert De la Vara (3-3), suffered the loss even though the southpaw was strong. He delivered seven innings of two run, six hit, three walk and ten strikeout baseball. The ten strikeouts was an individual best for any Bluefish player in one game this season. Rommie Lewis surrendered a run on a hit and a walk in the eighth while Jorge Julio tossed a scoreless ninth with a strikeout.
Lancaster starter, Dwayne Pollok (3-0), picked up the win as the righthanded starter threw six scoreless and now has completed ten shutout frames in his two starts. The righthander allowed six hits and struck out two in his outing. Horacio Ramirez, Ching Lung Lo, Jeff Bennett, and Tim Hamulack combined to finish the contest. The tandem of relievers gave up one run on three hits and a walk while striking out three. Hamulack notched his tenth save of the year.
Bridgeport continues a four-game series against the Lancaster Barnstormers on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. It is the 15th anniversary Bluefish magnet giveaway presented by magnetStreet.
