Vancouver Whitecaps FC News Release

VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced today that the first wave of five thousand (5,000) $50 season ticket deposits for Vancouver Major League Soccer 2011 are now gone.

"The response we have received from the community has been phenomenal," said Whitecaps president Bob Lenarduzzi. "We sold 5,000 deposits in less than 48 hours and our season tickets for the upcoming season continue to sell at an unprecedented pace."

Currently, the only way to immediately secure a season ticket for 2011 is through 2009 Whitecaps ticket packages. Whitecaps ticket pack holders are automatically placed at the front of the line for seats in 2011, and do not need to pay the $50 deposit.

Alternatively, fans can place their name on a Vancouver MLS 2011 waitlist by visiting vancouverMLS2011.com. When a second phase of deposit spots are opened, waitlisted supporters will be contacted to put down their deposits before the general public.

A second phase of deposit spots will be opened once current Whitecaps ticket holders have had an opportunity to secure any additional seats at their current priority number. Priority numbers for seat selection will be assigned to current Whitecaps ticket holders first; followed by phase one depositors (sold out); then phase two depositors.

On Wednesday, March 18, Vancouver was announced as the 17th MLS franchise. The team will join MLS for the 2011 season. Only 16,500 season tickets will be made available for Vancouver's inaugural season in MLS. For more information, visit vancouverMLS2011.com.

The 2009 MLS season opened last week when Seattle Sounders FC defeated New York Red Bulls 3-0 in front of 32,523 fans at Qwest Field. Thursday's match was Seattle's inaugural season opener as an MLS club and they have capped season ticket sales at 22,000.

Toronto FC - Canada's first MLS team - have sold out every home game during their first two seasons, capped season tickets at 16,000, and have a season ticket waiting list of over 14,000.
