FIRST TRIP TO LAREDO A SUCCESS â The Mudbugs played began another road trip on Friday night with their first ever meeting with the expansion Laredo Bucks. Willie Hubloo started the scoring just 1:32 into the game with a tip-in past Bucks goaltender Lance Leslie. After a scoreless second period, the Mudbugs' power play generated two quick goals in the third from Dan Wildfong and Forbes MacPherson. The 3-0 lead appeared to be safe, until Laredo scored two goals seventeen seconds apart in a four-on-four situation to make it a one-goal game. However, Mudbugs netminder Ken Carroll stood tall and earned his seventh win of the season by making 35 saves. Forbes MacPherson and Chad Spurr each had two points in the win.
ODESSA HOLDS ON TO BEAT MUDBUGS â Saturday night's game in Odessa was the fifth straight road game for the Mudbugs and their final meeting of the year against the Jackalopes. In the second period, Odessa scored three straight goals including two on the power play to take a 3-0 lead. Jason Campbell got the Mudbugs on the board late in the period, however, with his tenth goal of the year. In the third, Odessa defenseman Scott Hillman scored fifty-five seconds into the period to give the Jackalopes a 4-1 lead. After a lengthy delay due to a broken pane of glass, the Mudbugs scored twice on goals from David Oliver and Trevor Buchanan to cut the Odessa lead to one goal. The goal by Oliver was his first as a Mudbug. But the Jackalopes scored five minutes later to claim a 5-3 lead and held on for the win. Mike Gorman posted the win for the Jacks by making 28 saves.
