Guzior, Belecki Awarded by CHL

El Paso left winger Russ Guzior and Corpus Christi goaltender Brent Belecki have been selected as the respective recipients of the Central Hockey League's Player and Goaltender of the Week awards for Week 10 of the CHL season. Both Guzior and Belecki led their clubs to perfect 2-0-0 marks for the week with outstanding performances. Guzior is the first El Paso player selected for a CHL honor this season, while Belecki joins former teammate Rob Giffin (CHL Player of the Week in Week 2, and since traded to Fort Worth) as Corpus Christi recipients.
Guzior led the Buzzards to back-to-back home wins over New Mexico and San Angelo over the weekend, figuring in five of the team's nine goals. In a 4-2 win over New Mexico on December 20, the Chicago native scored his 13th goal of the season, then potted a hat-trick and an assist the following evening in a 5-3 win over San Angelo. Guzior's 16 goals have him tied for 6th spot in the CHL, and he is well on pace to top his career high of 28, set with Mobile of the East Coast Hockey League in 1999/2000.
In Corpus Christi, Belecki and his teammates faced the daunting task of welcoming both the Memphis RiverKings and Austin Ice Bats (the two clubs met in last season's Presidents Cup Finals) to Memorial Coliseum. Behind Belecki's 41-save performance Friday, Corpus Christi edged Memphis 3-1, and then defeated Austin 4-1 the following night, with Belecki turning aside 35 shots. With a save percentage of 97.4 in the two games, and crucial wins over two CHL Division Leaders, Belecki has Corpus Christi back at the .500 mark with a record of 12-12-1.
