August 16, 2012 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Spokane Indians News Release

Spokane, WA -The Texas Rangers announced today that they have assigned their first-round pick Joey Gallo (39th overall) to the Spokane Indians. Gallo arrived in Spokane last night and will be in the lineup for today's game against the Yakima Bears at 7:05 p.m.

A 6'5" left-handed hitting third baseman, Gallo was drafted by the Rangers in this year's MLB First-Year Player Draft out of perennial baseball powerhouse Bishop Gorman High School (NV), where he hit .509 with 21 home runs and 80 RBI his senior season.

The state record holder in Nevada for career high school home runs was widely regarded by scouts as possessing the best raw power in the 2012 draft. In addition to his prowess at the plate, Gallo is also lauded for his arm strength, as he reached 98 miles-per-hour off the mound in high school.

Gallo started his professional career this year with the Arizona League Rangers, where he hit .293 in 150 at-bats while setting the all-time AZL record with 18 home runs.

Indians fans can hear Gallo's debut on SportsRadio 1510 KGA with "Voice of the Indians" Mike Boyle or streaming online at 1510kga.com.

The Indians travel to Yakima for a three game series against the Bears before returning to Avista Stadium on Sunday, August 19th for Kids Operate the Ballpark Night presented by Itron, KISS 98.1, 590 KQNT, and Northwest Mama Magazine. Avista Stadium will be taken over by kids! Young fans can sign up at the game for the chance to help out as a bat boy, a P.A. announcer, a radio broadcaster, a member of the grounds crew, and more!
