First round draft choice Greene joins Cardinals

Tyler Greene has been very successful in the game of baseball. He was a high school All-American at St. Thomas Aquinas in Plantation, FL. Greene was also the starting 3rd basemen on the 2003 USA National Team that captured the silver medal at the Pan American games.

In 2002, Tyler Greene was drafted in the 2nd round of the first year player draft by the Atlanta Braves. Greene turned down the chance and instead opted to go to Georgia Tech University. His reason for turning down the pros was so he could experience what college was like, to mature as a player and a person and to come close to finishing a degree at a school like Georgia Tech.

The reason I chose Georgia Tech,Greene said. It was because of the excellence of the baseball program and also the excellence of the academic programs as well. There are not many schools across the country that has a top 10 academic program and also a top 10 baseball program.

Greene turned out a pretty good career at Georgia Tech where he was twice named to the All-America team. He was selected to the Freshman All-American team and was selected to this years All-America team by USA Today Sports Weekly and Collegiate Baseball. Greene also had the 6th longest hitting streak in school history at 23 games and finished his career at Tech ranked 8th in career stolen bases with 65.

Greene got another surprise when he found out that one of his former summer teammates, Mitchell Boggs would be joining him up here for the summer. Greene and Boggs played for the East Cobb Yankees, an 18 & under team in Atlanta. Greene feels it will be a nice comfort to be staying with such a good friend.

Hopefully we can continue to stick together, work hard to get better and maybe one day we will both be playing at Busch Stadium,he said.
