Moose Jaw Warriors News Release

Jagger Firkus is ready to take it all in when he heads to training camp with the Seattle Kraken next week.

The Moose Jaw Warriors forward will hit the ice in the Emerald City starting on Monday and is looking forward to getting things underway.

"I'm excited to get back there," Firkus said.

Firkus was selected by the Kraken early in the second round of the 2022 NHL Draft and attended development camp with the team shortly afterwards.

He said he learned a lot at that camp that he will use going into his first professional training camp.

"There's lots of things that they told me to work on over the summer, but one big thing is I got to meet a lot of new guys there, a lot of the staff as well, so I'm just going to be a lot more comfortable going back this time and that's huge," Firkus said.

While Firkus will be more comfortable going back to Seattle, he knows training camp will be another step up.

"You're playing with pros now," he said. "There's the next level guys there, the team's there and there's lots of players I'm going to be trying to watch and trying to follow after.

"It's going to be a big jump going to main camp, but that's super exciting for me, I get to play with NHL players and that's something that you dream about as a kid."

After leading the Warriors in scoring last season with 36 goals and 80 points, big things are expected for the Irma, AB product coming into this season.

Firkus is hoping that the experience he gains at Kraken camp will help him coming back to Moose Jaw.

"That's something that I saw with players last year, they came back from camps and had those little things that they picked up from the pros, so that's what I'm going to try and do this year," Firkus said.

This offseason was a busy one for Firkus after the NHL Draft and the Kraken's development camp, he hit the ice with Hockey Canada for the World Junior Summer Development Camp.

He said through all that and training, he feels he's taken his game up a notch.

"There's lots of things that I worked on and that I improved on," Firkus said. "That's the main goal of summer, just try to improve your game throughout the whole summer and I think I did a good job of that.

"I was confident last year, but this year it will be on a new level and that's where my game comes from. If my confidence is high, that's when I'm playing my best, so it's going to be awesome."

Firkus will be on the ice for Rookie Camp on Monday and Tuesday, then Kraken training camp opens on Thursday. The Kraken play their first preseason game on Monday, Sept. 26 against the Edmonton Oilers.
