Tacoma Rainiers News Release

After a rough week on the road (including getting no-hit on Friday), the Rainiers return to Tacoma tonight (Tuesday, June 17) for an eight game homestand. There are lots of great promotions this homestand so read on for more details. Last night Las Vegas ruined Matt Thornton's Triple-A debut by touching him for six runs and ten hits over five innings, handing him a loss. Las Vegas won the series, three games to one. Jalal Leach had a three-hit game for Tacoma, and Adrian Myers came off the disabled list to hit two doubles. Ruben Castillo was 2-for-4 and has now hit in eight of his last nine games.

The homestand begins with a 7:05 p.m. game tonight against the Memphis Redbirds (St. Louis Cardinals affiliate). Brian Falkenborg is scheduled to pitch for Tacoma against Jason Ryan. Gates into the stadium open at 5:30 p.m. There will be some fun and games set up in the parking lot so come out to the game early to enjoy the activities. Also, John Mabry is scheduled to begin a rehabilitation assignment with the Rainiers tonight.

WEDNESDAY, June 18 is sponsored by The Home Depot. Fans can stop by local Home Depots for free general admission tickets for this game (while supplies last). Game time is 7:05 p.m. and gates into the stadium open at 5:30.

Dollar Deal Days returns on THURSDAY, June 19. On this or any Thursday (except July 3) hot dogs, cold drinks, coffee, and ice cream are only $1 each! On Thursday evening games there are also $1 beers (again, excluding July 3). Plus there will be a coupon in The News Tribune to save you $1 per ticket off the regular adult prices. Game time is again 7:05 p.m. with a gate time of 5:30. (Please note that on Dollar Deal Days, all $1 beers must be purchased and consumed in our beer garden.)

FRIDAY, JUNE 20 starts a weekend with a multitude of activities at Cheney Stadium. To kick it all off, the first 1,500 fans through the gate on Friday will receive a Gaylord Perry Bobble Head Doll courtesy of the Emerald Queen Casino. Perry, who pitched for the Tacoma Giants in the early 1960's, is a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame and also pitched for the Mariners later in his career. Perry will also be on hand to sign some autographs and will do his best to accommodate as many fans as possible but he will not be able to sign for everyone. Then following the game are FRIDAY NIGHT FIREWORKS sponsored by Click! Network. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. for this 7:05 p.m. game.

If you like mascots, SATURDAY is the day for you. Our annual Mascot Day is this Saturday, June 21. The Mariner Moose and the Seahawks' Blitz are two of the mascots who will be here to entertain. Then during the game we celebrate the opening of the new Tacoma Krispy Kreme Doughnuts. Coupons for doughnuts will be given away during the game and every fan will receive a Krispy Kreme as they leave the game! Game time in this first game of the four game series against New Orleans (Houston Astros affiliate) is 7:05 p.m. and gates open at 5:30. Don't forget that kids can also run the bases after the game.

Another great promotion falls on SUNDAY, June 22. It is Aamco Transmissions Baseball Cap Day for the first 1,500 fans through the gate. It is also Shari's Hardball Bingo. The first 3,000 fans will receive a bingo card to play throughout the game with a chance to win a $150 gift certificate from Shari's. Game time for this afternoon game is 1:35 p.m. with gates opening at noon.

MONDAY, June 23 is Domino's Medium Pizza Madness Night. If Tacoma scores 10 or more runs in the game all fans will receive a coupon for a free medium cheese pizza from Domino's. Game time is 7:05 and gates open at 5:30 p.m.

The eight game homestand concludes with a 7:05 p.m. game against New Orleans on TUESDAY, June 24. As with all Tuesday games, fans who fill up their tank at participating Chevron's will receive a voucher that will get your entire carload into this game for free! Gates into the stadium open at 5:30.

If you are a golf fan, the Tacoma Rainiers Community Fund (TRCF) is proud to announce the 9th Annual Golf Classic to be played at McCormick Woods Golf Course in Port Orchard, WA on Wednesday, June 25. This is your opportunity for a great day of fun and to play golf with Rainiers players and staff. There are still a still a few spots available for $150 per person or $500 for a foursome. Call Rachel Marecle at 752-7700 by this Friday to reserve your spot or for more information.

Tickets for our annual Fireworks Extravaganza on Thursday, July 3 are still available. This game usually sells out though so make sure to get your tickets early. If you enjoy our usual Friday Night Fireworks, you'll really enjoy this even larger fireworks display.
