Portland Beavers News Release

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The Portland Beavers racked up 15 hits, highlighted by five doubles, a triple and a season-high four home runs, in a 9-6 win over the Albuquerque Isotopes Monday night.

Tagg Bozied had two hits, including a two-run first-inning home run, and had three RBIs to lead the Beavers. Alex Fernandez doubled twice and went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored.

With the win, the Beavers (38-34) earned a series split with the Isotopes (33-38).

The first-place Beavers return home Tuesday to begin an eight-game homestand, playing host to the New Orleans Zephyrs and the Memphis Redbirds at PGE Park.

The Beavers got off to an early 3-0 lead on home runs by Bozied and Alex Pelaez. An inning later, pitcher Jaret Wright, who also picked up the win, smacked a two-run home run to give Portland a 5-2 lead.

Portland added a pair in the third on run-scoring doubles by Fernandez and Wiki Gonzalez.

Mark Quinn ended the offensive onslaught with a tape-measure home run in the ninth, his seventh of the year.

Brian Tollberg started the game, but was removed in the first inning after a 54-minute rain delay. Wright (1-1) stuck out four in 2.2 innings of scoreless relief to notch the victory. For the second time in four games, manager Rick Sweet was forced to use six pitchers as the result of a shortened outing by his starter.

Albuquerque starting pitcher Doug Bochtler (5-3) took the loss. In three innings of work, the right-hander allowed seven runs on nine hits.

Although Portland led throughout the game, the Isotopes brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth. But with two outs and runners on first and second, Courtney Duncan got Chris Ashby to ground out to second to end the threat.

NOTES: The Beavers belted 10 home runs in their four-game series against Albuquerque, the most the team has hit in a series this season ... Bozied has hit four home runs and recorded nine RBIs over his last six games ... Jermaine Clark hit what appeared to be a home run to lead off the game, but it was later ruled foul after a conference between the umpiring crew ... Clark returned to the plate, tripled but was thrown out at home trying to leg out an inside-the-park home run ... Portland's 10 extra-base hits was also a season-high.
