Florida Firecats News Release
Estero, FL- The Florida Firecats announced today that Groovin' Oldies 102.9 WJGO will begin carrying the Firecats games this weekend and will continue thru the teams' playoff run.
"Our partnership with Renda Broadcasting has been tremendous this year. They have been fantastic with their support & promotions on each of their stations in town and now we'll be able to reach more of our fan base with WJGO." Said team President/GM Chris Vallozzi. "WGUF's audience is primarily in Naples and while it was an upgrade over our previous AM radio partner, a part of our fan base was being left out of the loop, now it's complete from Marco Island to North Ft. Myers and from Cape Coral to Immokalee." Combining WGUF & WJGO boosts the Firecats up to 60,000 watts, the strongest signal for any team in Southwest Florida and still the only team on the FM dial.
98.9 FM WGUF Naples FM Talk will continue to be the flagship of the Firecats network and fans will still be able to listen online at both www.FloridaFirecats.com & www.ABC-7.com. WGUF will also continue to air the weekly coaches' show with Head Coach Kevin Bouis & Dave Parks Monday nights from 6-7pm.
"We've been thrilled since day one to be partnered with the Firecats and now we have a great opportunity to bring that excitement to even more of our listeners," said WJGO & WGUF Program Director Pete Paquette. "Listener support has been wonderful all season long and with the next 2 games on the road and then the team heading to the playoffs, we felt it was the perfect time to join WJGO & the team together."
Florida travels to Green Bay this weekend to take on the (8-6) Green Bay Blizzard. Kickoff is scheduled for 8pm. The âCats will then travel to Birmingham the following week where they will look to end the regular season with a complete sweep of the South Division, Florida is 7-0 against the rest of the division this year.
The Firecats are now one game ahead of Manchester in the race for the top seed in the American Conference. If the Firecats can hold off the Wolves they will have home field throughout the playoffs. Florida is 2-0 at home all time in the post-season.
The 2nd round schedule has been set and the Firecats will host an opponent yet to be determined on August 13th with the kickoff scheduled for 7:40pm. Playoff tickets are now on sale.
