FIRE COMESBACK FOR VICTORY: The Fire trailed Oklahoma City 24-7 early in the second quarter and 31-21 at the half, but fought back in the second half to defeat OKC, 47-45, on Saturday night. The Fire's offense was shut out in the first quarter, but the defense returned the favor shutting OKC out in the third quarter. Rob Mager made his return to the lineup in a big way earning Offensive Player of the Game honors by catching 17 passes for 122 yards and five touchdowns. Mager's 17 receptions are a new Fire record for receptions in a game. Dennis Fryzel sealed the victory with an interception with in the end zone with 36 seconds left in the game. The Fire's victory ties the team record for wins in a season (9).
SAUK GETS CLOSER: Quarterback Matthew Sauk threw for seven touchdowns at Oklahoma City bringing his total to 84 for the season. Sauk needs 10 touchdown passes in the last two games to break Tony Zimmerman's record of 93 touchdown passes in a season. Sauk is also on pace to break the league record passing yards in a season. Sauk has already broken the league record for completions in a season.
DEFENSE STEPPING IT UP: For the second game in a row the Fire held a team scoreless for at least one quarter. Saturday was the fifth time this season the Fire has shut a team out in at least one quarter.
