Flint Firebirds News Release

FLINT, Mich. - The Flint Firebirds made two picks at the 2024 Under-18 Priority Selection on Wednesday night. Flint took defenseman Isaac Oldenhof with the sixth overall pick then added right wing Josh Bonnyman with the 26th.

Oldenhof spent the 2023-24 season with the Markham Waxers U18 AAA, where he had 11 goals and 12 assists in 33 games played. He added two goals and five assists during 10 postseason games. Prior to his time with the Waxers, the defenseman played for the York Simcoe Express U16 AAA and had 10 goals and 34 assists in 36 games.

Bonnyman played the 2023-24 season for the Ajax/Pickering Raiders U18 AAA and scored 18 goals to go with 11 assists in 35 games played. In 2022-23 he had 12 goals and 18 assists over 31 games played for the Central Ontario Wolves U16 AAA.

The U18 Priority selection was developed in 2017 to assist the growth of U18 AAA hockey and provide further opportunities for players at different stages of their hockey development. All U18 players not currently on a CHL Member Team Protected List who were carded with an Ontario-based U18 AAA Hockey Club or an accredited Hockey Canada sport school in the 2023-24 playing season were eligible for the U18 Priority Selection.

Both Oldenhof and Bonnyman, as well as the 16 players drafted over the weekend at the OHL Priority Selection, will be invited to 2024 Orientation Camp, set to take place in Flint this weekend. On Friday, there will be a scrimmage at Flint Iceland Arenas from 4-5:30 p.m. that is open to the public with free admission.
