[Fayetteville, N.C.] –The Fayetteville FireAntz of the Southern Professional Hockey League played three games in three nights over the weekend for the second week in a row. The prior weekend the FireAntz took two of the three games.

Friday December 17th (at Columbus): The FireAntz went into Columbus for the fourth meeting between the two teams but the first on the road. The Cottonmouths had a 2-1 edge in the season series prior to the game.

First period goals by Lorne Misita and Orrin Hergott and a second period goal by Tim Green gave the Cottonmouths a 3-0 edge going into the third period. Hergott and Green's goals were both shorthanded.

Steve Roberts (12th) pulled the FireAntz within striking distance at 3-1. But Hergott netted his second of the game to close the scoring at 4-1.

The FireAntz outshot Columbus 36-25.

FireAntz 7-11 on the season, (1-3 vs. Columbus.)

Saturday December 18th (at Huntsville): The FireAntz and Havoc met only once prior to the game, a 5-2 FireAntz victory last weekend on home ice. This contest would take place in Huntsville.

In a penalty-filled first period (38 penalty minutes on 12 penalties) Fayetteville's Paul Vincent tallied the only goal of the period, his first as a member of the FireAntz.

Two insurance goals in the third period, a power play goal by Andrew Dickson and an even strength tally by Nick Kormanyos, would give the FireAntz a 3-0 advantage.

Goaltender Chad Collins would make the lead stand up blocking all 33 shots he faced on the evening. It was his third shutout of the season and lowered his league leading goals against average to 1.96.

The FireAntz outshot Huntsville 35-33.

FireAntz 8-11 on the season, (2-0 vs. Huntsville.)

Sunday December 19th (vs. Knoxville): This was the second meeting of the year between the two rivals. Knoxville handled the FireAntz the first time around, winning 6-2, scoring on 5 of 11 power play opportunities in Knoxville.

This game would not be much different. Knoxville got the first two goals of the game off the sticks of K.C. Caudill and Kevin Swider. Steve Roberts (13th) answered for the FireAntz at the 15:11 mark of the first period.

In the second period Doug Searle tacked one on for the Ice Bears which gave them a 3-1 edge going into the third. That's when the fireworks started.

Four third period goals for Knoxville (Caudill's 2nd, Mike Craigen, and former FireAntz David Bagley and Chris Bodnar) provided the final scoring of a one-sided affair, 7-1.
