Fayetteville Marksmen News Release

FAYETTEVILLE, NC--- The Cape Fear FireAntz of the Atlantic Coast Hockey League (ACHL) made two roster moves today. The Antz have waived defenseman Geoff O'Leary, and placed Captain Marc Genest injured reserve.

Genest, who just came off the IR less than a week ago (Feb. 4), has a badly bruised foot. The Nichols, S.C. resident was struck in the back of the foot by a shot in practice Feb. 6. The 6-0 190-pounder played in the two FireAntz games Feb. 7 and 8, but has not practiced this week.

The captain is expected to make a full recovery and re-join the team by the end of the month. Genest has appeared in 37 games and scored 31 points (13G, 18A). He has been the only captain in FireAntz history.

The other move today saw the FireAntz designate Geoff O'Leary for assignment. The FireAntz are in trade talks with an unnamed ACHL team this week. If they are not able to finalize a deal by this weekend's game O'Leary will be released.

In 22 games this year, O'Leary had two assists. The Alliston, Ont. native has been sidelined twice this year after suffering concussions.

Head Coach Bryan Wells said, "We will fill the roster by the game this Thursday (Feb. 13) in Macon." The FireAntz will play four games in five days this coming weekend, including three of them against the Macon Trax.

Currently the FireAntz are in third place in the ACHL with a 19-(1)-26, 37 points. The Winston-Salem Parrots and Macon Trax sit only one point behind as the teams enter the final 15 games of the season. The top four teams in the ACHL will make the President's Cup Playoffs.
