Fayetteville Marksmen News Release

[FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.] – The Fayetteville FireAntz of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) announced Monday that the club has released goaltender Tim Knudsen and center Darcy Weaselhead. The roster spots left vacant by the transactions opened up room on the roster for the signings of goaltender Tyler Nilsson and center Shawn Roed.

Knudsen who started in net for the FireAntz first two games was pulled on Saturday after giving up the fourth goal of the game in a 5-4 defeat at the hands of the Jacksonville Barracudas. He was 0-2 with a 5.66 goals against average and a .864 save percentage in two games with the FireAntz.

Weaselhead also played in the first two games and did not register a point. He was a +1 for the FireAntz.

Signings: To fill the void left by the two roster moves the FireAntz signed goaltender Tyler Nilsson and center Shawn Roed.

Nilsson, 27, is a 6'1'' 157 pound goalie from Victoria, British Columbia and is entering his second professional hockey season. Last year with the Fort Worth Brahmas of the Central Hockey League Nilsson went 9-19-4 with a .890 save percentage and a 3.53 goals against average in 32 games played.

Roed, 23, is a 5'9'' 172 pound center from White Bear Lake, Minnesota and joins the FireAntz after playing in two games with the Odessa Jackalopes of the CHL this year. He had an assist and 2 penalty minutes in those games.

"We needed some speed up the middle." Head Coach Derek Booth said of Roed, "We played against him last year in San Angelo (CHL) and he can really skate. It's an area we were lacking in."

The FireAntz are at home Friday, November 5th vs. the Columbus Cottonmouths and Saturday, November 6th vs. the Macon Trax. Great seats still remain. Call the FireAntz office at (910)321-0123 for more information.
