[Fayetteville, N.C.]— The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) announced today that Fayetteville FireAntz goaltender Chad Collins has been named the Sherwood "Player of the Week" in the SPHL. It is the second time this year that Collins has earned the recognition. He was also the inaugural winner of the award in November.

Collins, a 5'8'' 160 pound rookie from Guelph, Ontario was stellar in net for the FireAntz in this past weekend's 3-game sweep.

On Friday in Asheville, Collins stopped 25 of the 26 shots he faced in a 4-1 victory over the Aces.

Saturday the club went to Columbus and Collins was equal to the task, turning aside 30 of 31 shots on goal.

Then on Sunday the FireAntz returned home to take on league-leading Knoxville. Collins again played a large part in the 5-4 victory, out-dueling Terry Dunbar of the Ice Bears.

Collins leads the SPHL in goals against average (2.38.) He is also tied for the lead in wins (16) with Matt Carmichael of Huntsville. His (3) shutouts also leads the SPHL.

"It feels great to be recognized by the league." Chad Collins said, "(But) this is more of a team award than an individual one. It's a testament to how well the team has been playing lately."

The FireAntz next home games are Friday, February 4th, and Tuesday, February 8th. Both games begin at 7:35 pm. Tuesday's game is "Rock 103.‘$5' Tuesday with the FireAntz." All tickets to the game are $5 and there will be food and merchandise deals for $5 as well. Great seats remain for both games. Call the FireAntz office at (910) 321-0123 for more information.
