Chicago Fire FC News Release

After a dramatic 3-2 come-from-behind victory over the Colorado Rapids last Sunday, the Fire set their sites on D.C. United this Saturday, Aug. 29 at TOYOTA PARK (7:30 p.m. CT, Fox Soccer Channel). This Saturday's game is the 37th all-time regular season meeting between the two clubs. The Fire have posted a 13-15-8 record against D.C. through regular season competitions, including a 1-2-0 record from 2008. Last season the Fire defeated D.C. in their only road contest at RFK Stadium, but dropped both matches at home in TOYOTA PARK. Despite holding the advantage in games played in Chicago with a combined regular and postseason record of 10-5-5, the Fire have won just one regular season match (2006) and one post season match (2007) in TOYOTA PARK.

In seven postseason meetings, D.C. has scored only two goals (both in Eastern Conference Semifinals of 2007, Second Leg) and has yet to defeat the Fire in the MLS Cup playoffs. The Fire have posted a 5-0-2 record against D.C. through four postseason runs.

The Fire are facing D.C. for the third time this season as the club has already compiled a 0-1-1 record against United in 2009. The Fire earned a point on the road in the first meeting of the two clubs on March 28 as D.C. opened scoring with a Luciano Emilio goal in the seventh minute and Patrick Nyarko tallied the equalizer in the road tie. The Fire fell in their last match against D.C., again on the road at RFK Stadium on June 13 where the team dropped a 2-1 contest. D.C. United scored the first goal of the match in the 24th minute with a penalty kick from captain Jaime Moreno earned after the referee carded goalkeeper Jon Busch for a foul on forward Chris Pontius inside the area during a one-on-one scenario. The Fire equalized in the 34th minute as Pappa ran onto a cross from Tim Ward, took a touch to his left, and sent a shot around defender March Burch and past goalkeeper Josh Wicks. D.C. regained the lead in the 41st minute as Christian Gomez buried a free kick and although the Fire had a chance to equalize in the 49th minute goalkeeper Josh Wicks saved a penalty kick shot taken by Brian McBride.

After a rollercoaster August, the team will look to string together two consecutive league wins for the first time since May and post two consecutive league home wins for the first time this season.
