Chicago Fire FC News Release

CHICAGO, IL (July 17, 2009) - The first place Chicago Fire (6-3-7, 25 pts.) will look to pick up three important points against the San Jose Earthquakes (3-9-4, 13 pts.) this Saturday, July 18 as the teams have their second meeting of the season tonight. The two clubs met earlier this season in a dramatic 3-3 draw on April 11 at Buck Shaw Stadium with Fire goals provided by Marco Pappa, Brian McBride, and Chris Rolfe. McBride earned MLS Goal of the Week for his strike against the Quakes.

Both teams will be fighting for the three points on Saturday as the Fire look to hold onto their first place position in the Eastern Conference standings - tied with Toronto FC at 25 points and ahead of D.C. United and the Columbus Crew who sit just one point behind the Fire, both having a record of 5-3-9 for 24 points. San Jose will look to begin the climb out of the bottom of the Western Conference as the team has 13 points through 16 games played.

The Fire have an all-time regular season record of 10-6-9 against San Jose that includes a commanding 6-1-5 record through games played in Chicago. The Earthquakes have not won in Chicago since 1999 during a shootout win. While the Fire is struggling to win at home this season (1-2-4, 7 pts.), the Earthquakes have yet to win on the road in 2009 (0-6-2, 2 pts.) through eight games played. Through their last 10 matches with the Earthquakes, the Fire have lost just once, a 2-0 loss at Spartan Stadium in 2005.
