Chicago Fire FC News Release
CHICAGO, IL (July 13, 2009) - The Chicago Fire will hold its third Community Soccer Series on Thursday, July 16th at McKinley Park in Chicago from 2:30 PM - 4:30 PM. The series features four free clinics throughout the summer, this being the third series, that will be held in neighborhoods around Chicagoland. The clinics are open to athletes from around the community, ages 7-14. The series is designed to instruct young athletes on the technical elements of soccer, while educating them on physical fitness, health, and wellness.
The clinics, which will be instructed by Chicago Fire player development coaches, will be separated into groups by age with sessions tailored to the varying skills levels. Each athlete will receive a free goody-bag courtesy of UnitedHealthcare, Best Buy, Bush's Beans, Walgreens, V & V Supremo and adidas. Also included will be a ticket voucher to a Fire game and a free Community Soccer Series t-shirt.
Each clinic will feature:
- A skills clinic featuring soccer drills, technique instruction, and mini-games
- A question and answer opportunity with two Chicago Fire players
- An exclusive autograph session with the two Chicago Fire players
The third clinic will be held on Thursday, July 16th from 2:30 PM - 4:30 PM at McKinley Park, located at 2210 W. Pershing Road in Chicago, and will feature a special appearance by Fire players Austin Washington and Patrick Nyarko. The clinics are free, but space is limited to the first 200 registrants. Participants must register in advance by contacting the Chicago Fire Community Relations Department at (708) 496-6754.
"The Community Soccer Series clinics are a great opportunity for young players to not only grow as players, but also to learn about how to take care of their bodies and lead healthy lifestyles," said Nyarko. "We were all young players at one point and I look forward to having a chance to talk to all the kids that come out to the clinic Thursday."
The last remaining clinic will take place on August 6th at Horner Park in Chicago.
The Fire's next home game will take place on Saturday, July 18th versus the San Jose Earthquakes at 7:30 PM at TOYOTA PARK. To purchase tickets, please visit www.chicago-fire.com or call 1-888-MLS-FIRE.
