Houston Dynamo FC News Release
HOUSTON, TX (Monday, July 13, 2009) -- Houston Dynamo players Geoff Cameron and Stuart Holden were both voted to the Major League Soccer First XI and will represent the league in the MLS All-Star Game on July 29, Major League Soccer announced today.
All-Star selections were voted on by players; coaches and general managers; media; and fans, each of which accounted for 25 percent of the voting. Dynamo head coach Dominic Kinnear, who will coach the MLS All-Stars against English club Everton, will select most of the squad's reserves, augmented by two commissioner's picks.
Cameron and Holden are the fourth and fifth All-Star First XI selections in Dynamo history. Dwayne De Rosario was a First XI selection in 2006 and 2007, and midfielder Ricardo Clark was named in 2007.
Cameron, 24, has had an outstanding season so far as a center back after playing most of his rookie season last year as a midfielder. He has partnered with Bobby Boswell in the center of the Houston back line to anchor the league's top defense, with only 12 goals allowed in 17 MLS games this season.
Holden, 23, is also in his first year as a full-time starter and helped lead the Dynamo to first place by notching three game-winning goals during the Dynamo's 11-game unbeaten streak April 11-June 20. Holden has four goals and three assists in 15 games on the season and earned a call-up to the United States national team, where he has scored two goals in his first two games.
Currently the overall Major League Soccer leader, the Dynamo will play their sixth of seven consecutive road games on Saturday afternoon against Toronto FC. The Dynamo will then travel back to Seattle for a Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup semifinal match against the Seattle Sounders on Tuesday, July 21. Houston's next home game is scheduled for Saturday, July 25, against the New England Revolution.
The league's First XI, with player bios, is below.
The Houston Dynamo are a Major League Soccer franchise that won two MLS Cup championships in its first three seasons and qualified to represent the United States in four consecutive regional championships.
