Visalia Rawhide News Release

VISALIA – For the first time this season, the Oaks found a way to beat Rancho Cucamonga, 5-1 at Recreation Park. The win snaps an eight game home losing streak.

Rich Cartier started the game for the Oaks and allowed just one run in five innings, while Chris Young tossed three hitless innings before Yusuke Arakawa came on to pitch the ninth and close out the win.

Visalia tallied two in the top of the first thanks to walks issued to lead off man K. J. Hendricks and number three hitter Sean Barker by Quakes starter Phil Wilson.

Hendricks moved to second on a ground ball, to third on a wild pitch and scored on a balk that put Barker at second and made it 1-0. Barker moved to third on Chris Fallon's single, then crossed the plate on a pass ball off catcher Jared Abruzzo to make it 2-0 in the thirst.

Wilson escaped after the Oaks loaded the bases later in the inning with one out by retiring the last two hitters in order.

Barker and Bernie Gonzalez each had RBI singles later in the game. Chris Fallon added the Oaks fifth run with a sacrifice fly to center in the fourth.

Wilson left the game after 3.2 innings and was tagged with all five Oaks runs in seven hits. He took the loss to fall to 3-7.

Rancho Cucamonga's only run scored in the third inning on Erick Aybar's RBI hit to right center, which at the time cut the lead to 2-1.

It's Been a While: Before Saturday, the last time Visalia had won two out of three was June 14-16. The only loss in that span was a 14-inning defeat to Modesto.

The Streak Continues: Rancho Cucamonga's Reggie Willits went 2-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to 16 games.

This is It: The final regular season game against a South Division opponent Recreation Park this season is Sunday at 1:35 p.m. RHP Taft Cable (3-2, 4.66 ERA) will make his first start for Visalia against RHP Jean Toledo (3-6, 6.68 ERA) for the Quakes. The Radisson Pre Game Show begins at 1:22 p.m. on AM 1270 KJUG and at kjugam.com.
