Visalia Rawhide News Release
Wild Card Watch: As noted above, Visalia trails Stockton by just a half game in the race for the final playoff spot in the North Division, following the Ports 14-6 loss to Modesto last night. Stockton will visit Visalia for a four game series tomorrow through Thursday.
A Long Time Coming: Last night's 5-1 win for the Oaks was the first of the season against Rancho Cucamonga. The Quakes still lead the season series, 4-1. Total is the final meeting of the regular season between the two teams.
A First: This will be the only of the five series at home against the South Division for the Oaks that will not be a sweep. The Oaks have been swept in three-game series by Lake Elsinore, Inland Empire and Lancaster. Visalia swept High Desert in a three game set last month.
Not Immune to a sweep by the Quakes: Visalia lost all three games at Rancho Cucamonga May 11-13.
Wire to Wire: When the Oaks led from the first inning on in last night's game, it marked the second time in three games that the Oaks had not trailed. Prior to last Wednesday's 8-2 win at Stockton, Visalia had trailed in each of its last 16 games, posting a 3-13 record over that span.
Sixteen in a Row: Rancho Cucamonga center fielder Reggie Willits singled in the first inning last night to extend his current hitting streak to 16 games.
A Once Proud Tradition: When playing at home on Sunday afternoon, the Oaks were 14-2 over the past two seasons coming into this year. However, following a 2-0 start, the Oaks have dropped four of their last five Sunday home games â 3-4 total this year.
Tonight's Promotions: It is a Visalia Times Delta Family Sunday. Fans can purchase four Grandstand Reserved tickets and a program for just $15 using a coupon found in the weekend edition of the Times Delta. It is also Community Sunday and donations will be accepted for the Visalia Emergency Aid Council. A non-perishable food item is good for one dollar off General Admission and Grandstand Reserved seating. Food items can be used for up to half-off per ticket. A gently worn clothing item can be donated for half-off GA and Grandstand Reserved tickets. Kids can run the bases after the game.
On the Visalia Buick-Pontiac-GMC Barbecue Picnic Deck: Guests the Association of California State Supervisors, Chapter 509 are enjoying the All-You-Can-Eat Buffet.
Today's Starting Pitchers
RHP Taft Cable (3-2-1, 4.66 ERA) will make his first start of the season for the Oaks and first start ever as a Rockies farmhand. Cable was released by the Philadelphia Phillies in spring training. Last season, Cable started three games for Double-A Reading of the Eastern League last season and went 0-1 in four total appearances with a 2.51 ERA. With the Oaks this season, Cable's longest outing was 4.1 innings against Inland Empire on April 29. He was touched for three runs on five hits in 1.1 innings in his only appearance against the Quakes, May 12 at Rancho Cucamonga.
RHP Jean Toledo (3-6, 6.68 ERA) is a native of Venezuela and will be on the hill for the Quakes. Toledo has won two of his last three starts, with both of the victories coming at home against High Desert. He has pitched only twice against North Division opponents and lost both times: April 29 against San Jose and May 21 at Stockton. Toledo has never faced the Oaks.
Next for the Quakes: A day off before a three game series begins at Lancaster on Tuesday.
Next for the Oaks: The current 7 game home stand concludes with a four game series against Stockton.
