Lancaster JetHawks News Release

(San Bernardino, CA) - Enrique Gonzalez allowed one run over six innings to earn his seventh win of the year, as the JetHawks downed the Inland Empire 66ers 4-1 on Saturday night at Arrowhead Credit Union Park. With the win, Lancaster improves to 11-4 in the second half of the season, and 54-31 overall.

Along with only allowing the one run, Gonzalez (7-5) and three JetHawks relief pitchers held the 66ers to only four hits in the games. Gonzalez also struck out six in the game. The four hits allowed equals a season low for hits allowed in a game for the JetHawks pitching staff.

The JetHawks scored first in the game, as Jarred Ball hit his eleventh home run of the year. The blast came with Matt Morgan on base, and gave Lancaster a 2-0 lead in the third inning.

They upped the lead to 3-0 in the fourth. Sean Luellwitz open the inning with a single, and Jay Garthwaite followed with a walk. Adam Haley sacrificed the runners to second and third, and Morgan delivered a single to center. Luellwitz scored from third. However, Gartwaite was thrown out while trying to score by 66ers centerfielder Gary Harris.

After Inland Empire scored a run in the bottom of the fifth, Lancaster made it a 4-1 game with a run in the sixth inning. With two outs, Gartwaite singled and came home on an RBI double by Haley.

Mike Schultz pitched the bottom of the ninth for the JetHawks to record his first save of the year.

The game was delayed for twenty minutes during the bottom of the sixth inning when the stadium lights went out.

The final game of the series against the 66ers concludes on Sunday at Arrowhead Credit Union Park. Pete Zamora (1-0) will go to the mound for the JetHawks, and Ryan Rowland-Smith (4-2) will get the ball for Inland Empire in the 6:11 p.m. game. After an off day on Monday, the JetHawks return home on Tuesday night to open a six game homestand.
