Final Two Lumberjacks Signed

Bangor, ME- The Bangor Lumberjacks have added the last two parts of the 2003 team, the Northeast League club announced today. The Jacks have signed RHP Luke DeBold and OF Mo Blakeney before the 2003 Northeast League season starts on Thursday.

DeBold, a 6’3, 220 pound righty is from Dyer, IN. He will be beginning his first season of professional baseball with the Lumberjacks, and will be looked to come out of the bullpen.

Blakeney was originally selected by the Expos in the 23rd round of the 1995 draft, but was released after two seasons. He then signed with the Adirondack Lumberjacks, where he hit .269 with 5 home runs and 20 RBI’s in just 23 games before being picked back up by the Expos. Mo played with the Expos single-A clubs in Cape Fear, NC and Vermont following his signing before being released in 1999. The Kannapolis, NC native is a career .257 hitter with 17 home runs and 100 RBI’s in 253 career games.

“Mo brings a lot of leadership, hustle, and fire to the ball club. Our goal is to be strong up the middle and Mo gives us the experience in centerfield to help us accomplish that,” stated Jacks Manager Kash Beauchamp.

The Lumberjacks open the 2003 campaign on the road against the Allentown (PA) Ambassadors on Thursday, May 22, but return to Bangor for the home opener on Friday, May 30 at 7 PM against the New Jersey Jackals at Mahaney Diamond.
