FT. WORTH, Tex. - The final exhibition tuneup for the regular season was washed out Tuesday night as the Gary SouthShore RailCats contest against the Ft. Worth Cats was called in the fifth inning with the RailCats down 3-2.

The RailCats wasted no time in opening the scoring, registering four first inning singles to grab a 2-0 edge on Ft. Worth starter Cody White. Mike Massaro and Brad Boyer singled with one out. Lou Ott provided the scoring punch, knocking a two-out single into center to score both Massaro and Boyer.

Ft. Worth responded in the bottom of the inning, touching Derrick Gordon for three runs with two outs. Trent Lockwood equaled the game with a double over the head of Adam Klein in the left field corner. Brian Fryer followed with a double to put the Cats ahead. Jeff Beachum was standing at third base representing the tying run in the top of the fifth inning when the rain and thunder arrived, forcing the cancellation.

Outside of the first inning, Gordon was dominant for the RailCats. Gordon struck out the side in the first, and fanned the side in order during the third before punching out the side again in the fourth. Gordon, who will start Sunday at Grand Prairie, struck out 10 in his four innings of work. The left-hander was the lone pitcher to see the mound in the game for the RailCats. Designated Hitter Kyle Haines reached base twice with a single and a walk in the shortened affair as Boyer received the nod at shortstop.
