Filia's Walk-Off Hit by Pitch Wins It for Kingfish

Kenosha, Wis. - Late game heroics struck again at Simmons Field, this time it was Eric Filia, with his walk-off hit by pitch leading the Kingfish to a 4-3 victory over the La Crosse Loggers Monday night at Simmons Field.

The Northwoods League South Division first place Kingfish (28-14) scored the first three runs in the game. Brody Westmoreland drove home Jason Scholl with an RBI single in the bottom of the second to make it 1-0 Kingfish. A run scored on an error by the Loggers and an RBI double from Grayson Byrd increased the Kingfish lead to 3-0 after four. The Loggers (21-19) struck back to score the next three runs, with one in the fifth and two in the sixth, to make it 3-3.

The game stayed tied at three a piece all the way into the ninth inning. Byrd led off with a walk and then advanced to second base on a passed ball. After a Zach Weigel infield bunt single and an intentional walk to last night's walk-off hero Nick Sergakis, Eric Filia stepped to the plate. The UCLA Bruin and Kingfish batting average leader took a pitch right to his back to bring home the winning run and give Kenosha a 4-3 victory. This is the second consecutive walk-off win for the Kingfish after Sergakis's walk-off double last night against the Loggers.  

At the plate, Byrd collected two hits and a run scored for Kenosha and Westmoreland had an RBI. Will Savage, Alex Merritt, and Ronnie Gideon all had two hits on the night for La Crosse.

Kingfish starter PJ Schuster had some of his best stuff on display, lasting six innings, allowing three runs on seven hits with two punch-outs. JR Holloway worked two innings of scoreless relief and Brett Shimanovsky came in to pitch a perfect ninth and pick up the win. For La Crosse, Nolan Gromacki was on point as well, allowing three runs in six innings of work while striking out two. Michael Echavia worked two innings of relief but took the loss for the Loggers

Baseball fanatics are sure in for a treat at Tuesday's 7:05 p.m. ball game. Lynch Chevrolet presents MLB Hall of Famer and former Chicago Cub Andre Dawson. "The Hawk" will be signing autographs before the game from 6:15 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. and also from 7:15 p.m. to 8 pm. Limit one autograph per person. Earlier in the day, Dawson will be at Lynch Chevrolet to sign autographs and meet fans from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Also at Simmons Field that night is Educators Credit Union Teacher Appreciation Day. A free hat is given to teachers who purchase a ticket and show school ID.
