Anchors stay perfect at home in second half

Alexandria, Minn. - The Alexandria Blue Anchors defeated the Madison Mallards Monday night at Knute Nelson Memorial Park by a score of 5-4. The Anchors are now 4-2 in the second half and 16-25 on the season.

The Mallards got a run early in the first against Graylon Brown. Anthony Gonsolin singled with one out and went to second on Jason Goldstein's base hit. A two-out single from Tyler Scott scored Gonsolin putting them ahead 1-0.

The Blue Anchors offense continued to stay hot starting in the second inning against Andrew Beckwith. Ricky Sanchez started the inning with a double and came in on a one-out double by Nehwon Norkeh. Ben Allen drew a walk and both runners came in on Anthony Mrosla's double down the right field line. Kyle Richardson singled to put Mrosla on second and he scored on a sac fly from Steve Sada giving the Anchors a 4-1 advantage.

In the top of the third, Logan Regnier was hit by a pitch to start the inning. Following a pop out, Goldstein signled. Collin Theroux hit into a fielder's choice putting two on for Scott Tyler who doubled in both runners cutting the lead down to 4-3.

Against the Mallards' bullpen, the Anchors extended their lead. Mrosla singled to start the inning and went to second on a passed ball. He advanced on a fly ball from Richardson and an RBI single from Sada put Alexandria up 5-3,

Madison got a run back in the fifth. With the bases loaded, Charlie Cody singled home a run making the score 5-4 in the Blue Anchors' favor.

Brown (2-2) finished the night with six innings pitched and four runs allowed on ten hits and two walks with six strikeouts. George Faue picked up his first save of the season pitching three scoreless innings. He walked three men and gave up two hits with a strikeout.

Minnesota Baseball Academy Player of the Game - Anthony Mrosla (C) - The backstop from DMACC finished the game 3-for-4 with a double and two singles with two RBI.
