Fighting Through the SAL

Greenville Drive News Release

Since the last Bombshells, Cap-City recorded its first shutout of the season, a 4-0 win over Greensboro. Unfortunately, that was the only win in the four-game home series against the Bats. Despite the honor a shutout does for a pitching staff, the Bombers would certainly have preferred a repeat of the Kannapolis series results, when Cap-City lost three shutout bids but won all three of those games to take the advantage in that series. As of this writing (Friday afternoon, May 2nd), the Bombers (15-10) are back to a .600 winning percentage after recording consecutive wins at Charleston (SC). That ties the Bombers for third in the Southern Division with the RiverDogs, and both teams, along with the Rome Braves (16-10), are looking up at the Hickory Crawdads (21-5). Keep your eyes on the end of May and the start of June, when the Bombers play Hickory eight times in eleven days—that could be a pivotal swing in the race for the first half crown (and the Crawdads are defending South Atlantic League Champions). After Friday night's conclusion in Charleston, the Bombers head to Savannah for three games (Saturday-Monday) before coming home Tuesday.

6. QUOTE OF NOTE & CRYPTO-QUOTE

"Every member of our baseball team at West Point became a general: this proves the value of team sports for the military."

--General Omar Bradley Here's that crypto-quote once again...its meaning will come clear in the weeks ahead. All the letters stand for other letters, like a code. At least one person solved it with no hints at all, but here are your first clues: the "C" represents the letter "N" and the "I" represents the letter "G".
