Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release

YOUNGSTOWN, OH - The Dubuque Fighting Saints (31-10-3-3, 68 pts) erased multiple deficits and scored late to take a 6-4 victory over the Youngstown Phantoms (26-14-4-3, 59 pts) on Friday night.

After Nick Romeo's (10) deflection goal gave the Saints their first lead of the game with 12:09 to play, Youngstown responded less than five minutes later to knot the game at four. Then, Luke Malboeuf pounced on a rebound in the slot to give the Saints a 5-4 lead just 20 seconds later. His third goal of the season, and second in the last three, gave the Saints a lead they held for the final 7:04 of the third period.

Dubuque trailed 2-0 and 3-1 in the contest, but drew three penalties in the second period. After allowing an early goal in the middle frame, the Saints scored on the last two of those three chances with Noah Powell's (26) league-leading 12th power-play goal and Gavin Cornforth's 13th of the season.

The Fighting Saints had five power-play chances overall, scoring twice. The Saints penalty kill shut down Youngstown in both power-play chances for the Phantoms.

Jake Sondreal scored the first goal of the night for the Saints on a breakaway goal in the first period after the Saints fell behind 2-0. James Reeder assisted Sondreal's 24th of the season and helped the Saints nab some momentum back in the game. Sondreal's goal was his 60th point of the season, making him the first player to reach that mark in the USHL this season.

Kevin Reidler allowed two goals on the first two shots of the night, but stopped 24 of 26 after that to help the Saints secure a victory. Reidler's 21st win ties him for the league-lead in victories.

The Saints finish their weekend set in Youngstown on Saturday with the fourth, and final, matchup of the season against the Phantoms.
