KINGSTON, Ont. - Lawson Crouse had one goal and two assists to pace the Kingston Frontenacs to a 4-1 victory over the North Bay Battalion in a fight-filled Ontario Hockey League game Friday night.

Conor McGlynn, Juho Lammikko and Cody Caron also scored for Kingston, which improved its won-lost-extended record to 10-5-2 for 22 points and moved into first place in the Eastern Conference and East Division. Goaltender Lucas Peressini faced 23 shots before 4,688 at the K-Rock Centre.

Brett McKenzie scored the North Bay goal, while goaltender Jake Kment made 32 saves for the Battalion, which opened a two-game road trip with a 5-3 victory Thursday night over the Peterborough Petes. The Troops are 7-8-2 for 16 points, fourth in the Central Division.

"I'd say those teams don't like each other," Battalion coach Stan Butler said after the teams' first meeting since North Bay swept Kingston in a conference quarterfinal series last season.

The Frontenacs outshot the Troops 17-3 in the first period on the way to a 2-0 lead.

Penalty killer Crouse opened the scoring at 8:54 as he stole the puck from Miles Liberati at centre ice and roared in alone on Kment, beating the goaltender high to the stick side with a forehand deke. McGlynn struck at 19:31, finishing off a two-on-one rush with Crouse by ripping a shot over the glove of a sprawling Kment.

Kment came up with saves on Crouse, Ted Nichol and Roland McKeown, while Peressini's only challenge came in the 14th minute when he found a Zach Shankar shot from the left point through a screen.

The Battalion cut its deficit in half at 4:38 of the second period when McKenzie's shot bounced off the end boards and into the crease, where it hit Peressini and slid into the net. The goal, McKenzie's sixth of the season, was assisted by Mike Baird and Mark Shoemaker.

Lammikko restored Kingston's two-goal lead at 8:26 when he dashed between Liberati and Riley Bruce and beat Kment high to the glove side.

The Frontenacs outshot the Troops 13-7, again forcing Kment to be sharp, with saves on Nichol, Crouse, Spencer Watson, Jared Steege and Stephen Desrocher. At the other end Peressini was tested by Liberati, Jacob Ball and Mike Amadio, who saw the end of a career-high 10-game points streak during which he scored eight goals and earned eight assists for 16 points.

Caron connected at 11:30 of the final frame. Shoemaker foiled Ryan Verbeek on a breakaway, but the trailing Caron collected the disc and fired it past a screened Kment.

The Battalion had some good chances late, but Peressini slid to deny Baird and made successive stops on McKenzie in tight.

The second period saw two fights, with Jake Ramalho getting the better of the Frontenacs' Ryan Cranford before Shankar rocked and then decked McKeown. In the third period, the Troops' Kyle Moore dropped Sam Field, Kingston's Konstantin Chernyuk prevailed over Kyle Potts and Brett Hargrave squared off with Steege. North Bay hosts Kingston in the second of four season meetings on Nov. 19.

The Battalion, which returns to action against the host Sudbury Wolves at 7 p.m. next Friday, originally was to visit the Ottawa 67's on Sunday, but that game has been rescheduled to Feb. 9 at the request of the 67's.
