Fighting Falcons Host Jets in Final Regular Season
February 21, 2014 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Port Huron Fighting Falcons News Release
PORT HURON, MI - The Port Huron Fighting Falcons, proud members of the North American Hockey League, host the Janesville Jets Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 4 p.m. at McMorran Arena in downtown Port Huron. The weekend series marks the final regular-season matchups between the North Division rivals.
Port Huron has led the NAHL's North Division since the season opener, and currently holds a six-point lead over second-place Michigan. Janesville is currently in sixth place, but sits just two points out of the fourth and final playoff spot in the division. First-place Port Huron is just 15 points ahead of last-place Janesville, which is by far the smallest margin among the NAHL's four divisions.
The Fighting Falcons won the first four games of the season series against the Jets, but were swept in a weekend series in Janesville earlier this month. Janesville took a 3-2 win on February 7, with all three goals coming on the power play. They earned a 4-3 shootout win the following night to complete the sweep.
Port Huron has outscored Janesville 27-15 this season, with nine of the Jets' goals coming on the power play.
Fighting Falcons goalie Max Milosek got his first shutout of the season in a 4-0 win when Janesville last visited McMorran Arena in early January. Milosek has won each of his four home starts in 2014, and has more shutouts (3) than goals allowed (2) at McMorran since the calendar turned.
Matt Seidel (5G, 3A) and Bryan Yim (1G, 7A) lead the way with eight points apiece against the Jets so far this season. Seidel's points have come in just four matchups, and include a franchise-record six points in the Fighting Falcons' 10-4 win in Janesville in mid-November. Adam Winborg has averaged more than a point per game against the Fighting Falcons with four goals and three assists in six games against Port Huron this year.
The Fighting Falcons are coming off of a home sweep of the Springfield Jr. Blues last weekend. Fighting Falcons Head Coach Michael Gershon's next victory would put him atop the team's all-time wins list, as he tied Bill Warren's mark of 50 wins with last weekend's sweep.
Tickets to any Fighting Falcons home game are available at the McMorran Arena Box Office, starting at just $7 for seniors, students and military. For more information, call the team's front office at (810) 966-3800.
