Fighting Falcons Bring Four-Game Win Streak up North

February 28, 2014 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Port Huron Fighting Falcons News Release

PORT HURON, MI - The Port Huron Fighting Falcons, proud members of the North American Hockey League, will put their four-game winning streak on the line this weekend as they travel up North for a weekend series with the Soo Eagles. The series marks the second consecutive weekend featuring the first-place Fighting Falcons against the North Division's last-place team.

Friday's 7:30 p.m. game is the last chance for the Eagles (20-22-7) to earn a point in February, as they have gone 0-6-0 to drop down to a tie with the Janesville Jets for fifth place. The Fighting Falcons (28-12-8) have enter the game with a four-game winning streak following back-to-back home sweeps over the Springfield Jr. Blues and Janesville Jets, but have not had a regulation victory away from McMorran Arena since New Year's Eve.

Saturday's 7 p.m. game marks the 100th behind the bench for Fighting Falcons Head Coach Michael Gershon, who set a new franchise record with wins number 51 and 52 last weekend.

The Eagles took three of four points during the last series between these teams January 11 and 12 at Pullar Stadium. The Fighting Falcons took a 3-2 shootout win to open the series before falling 5-2 the following night.

The Fighting Falcons are 5-1-2 against the Eagles this season, but have outscored the Soo just 22-20, as five of the first eight matchups have gone to overtime or shootouts. Each team has just one win by more than one goal during the season series, with the Fighting Falcons getting a 3-0 win back in November on home ice.

Zach Badalamenti (5G, 2A) and Logan Lambdin (3G, 4A) lead the way for Port Huron with seven points apiece in eight games against the Soo this season. The Eagles are led by Michael Sabatini (3G, 3A) and Scott Cuthrell (2G, 4A).

Alex Blankenburg is undefeated in three starts against the Eagles this season, stopping 82 of 85 shots. The second-year goalie's lone shutout of the 2013-14 season came against the Soo as well.

Four different Eagles goalies have seen action against the Fighting Falcons, with current netminders Nathan Klebe and Nathan Trutt combining for a 2-0-2 record.

Both games will be available live at www.fasthockey.com, and the play-by-play feed from broadcaster Dennis Stuckey will air on WHLS AM.

The Fighting Falcons return to home ice Wednesday, March 12 for a 6 p.m. matchup with the in-state rival Michigan Warriors. The Fighting Falcons are just 2-4-2 against the Warriors this season, with four games remaining against Michigan in March.

Tickets to any Fighting Falcons home game are available at the McMorran Arena Box Office, starting at just $7 for seniors, students and military. Flex packs, which include two tickets to each remaining regular-season home game are available at the box office for just $54. For more information, call the team's front office at (810) 966-3800.
