Brookings Blizzard News Release

The Brookings Blizzard of the North American Hockey League are proud to announce that goaltender Connor Girard has made his NCAA Division I commitment to play at the Air Force Academy next season.

Girard has played in 22 games this season for the Blizzard with a 0.92 save percentage and 666 saves. He joined the Blizzard in early December after starting the season with the Sioux City Musketeers of the USHL.

"Connor has been a huge addition to our team since we traded for him in December," said Blizzard head coach Cory Laylin.

The play of Girard in net has helped keep the Blizzard in playoff contention late in the season. Before joining the team the Blizzard only managed 5 wins in their first 25 games. Now the team is just six points out of the final playoff spot in the Central Division with ten games to play.

"He is one of the most athletic goalies I've seen at this level," added Laylin. "He has a great mental approach to the game and does not seem to get rattled in net."

Girard is a native of Edina, MN and graduate from Edina High School in 2011.

"As an organization we are very excited for Connor. It is great to see a player work hard and be rewarded. He will be a great player for Air Force the next few years," said Laylin.

The Air Force Academy Fight Falcons are a NCAA Division I program and compete in the Atlantic Hockey Association. They have a 19-11-4 record this season and are tied for third in the AHA standings.
