IFL Frisco Fighters

Fighters Clinch Playoffs, Seeking Top Four Seed

August 1, 2021 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Frisco Fighters News Release

The Frisco Fighters are officially in the playoffs in their inaugural season after knocking off the defending IFL champion Sioux Falls Storm, 37-33, Saturday night in Sioux Falls.

The Fighters are now 8-2 on the season with three games left in the regular season.

Frisco put together a statement win against the Storm, relying on a dominant defense and an offense sparked by quarterbacks Malik Henry and Jerrod Heard. Henry saw his first-ever IFL action and made the first start of his professional career after former Fighters quarterback Jonathan Bane walked away from the team earlier in the week. The pair led the Fighters to scoring plays on 6-of-9 drives in the game, excluding the final drive where the Fighters ran out the game clock to preserve the victory.

Defensively the Fighters pitched a shutout in the second half, with Sioux Falls' only second half points coming on a kickoff return. Frisco forced four second half stops, including recovering a fumble, forcing a safety, and completing a goal line stand, denying the Storm at the one-yard line on fourth down.

The Fighters return home to Comerica Center at 7:05 p.m. this Saturday night when they host the Spokane Shock, another team vying for a home playoff game. Frisco defeated the Shock in the first game of the season in Spokane, 36-33, and can clinch a home playoff game and the No. 3 overall seed with a victory.
