SIOUX FALLS, SD - The Sioux Falls Storm lost their sixth game of the season on Saturday, July 31. The Storm fell to 5-6 after a 33-37 loss to second ranked Frisco Fighters.
The Fighters were the first to score with a one-yard rushing touchdown by Jerrod Heard, to take an early 0-7 lead. The Storm answered back with back-to-back touchdowns; the first was a two-yard rushing touchdown by quarterback Lorenzo Brown, extra point was blocked by Sir'Vell Ford and return for a safety by Tyrell Thompson and then a 38-yard touchdown pass to Tre King from Lorenzo Brown. The quarter ended with the Storm up 12-9.
The Fighters tied it at 12 after a field goal by Kristov Matinez to begin the second quarter. The Storm answered back with a four-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Sheperd from Lorenzo Brown, bringing the score to 19-12. The Fighters tied it up again at 19 after a 10-yard rushing touchdown by Jerrod Heard. The Storm retook the lead after a 11-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Sheperd from Lorenzo Brown, bringing the score to 26-19. The half would end with a 26-22 Storm lead after a Fighters field goal by Kristov Matinez.
The Fighters shut-out the Storm in the third quarter. The Fighter lead 26-28 at the end of the third quarter after an eight-yard rushing touchdown by DeMarcus Felton.
The Fighters extended their lead to 26-35 after a three-yard rushing touchdown by Jerrod Heard to start the fourth quarter. The Storm answered back with a 50-yard kickoff return by Nate Chavious, bringing the score to 33-35. The game would end with a safety for the Fighters after an intentional grounding penalty on the Storm, bringing the final score to 33-37.
Storm quarterback Lorenzo Brown completed seven passes for 120 yards, three touchdowns, 16 rushing yards for one touchdown and one fumble. Running back Nate Chavious rushed for 78 yards along with 112 return yards and one touchdown. Wide receivers Brandon Sheperd had 41 reception yards and two touchdown, Alonzo Moore had 27 reception yards and Tre King had 38 reception yards and one touchdowns. Defensive back Trey Wafford led the Thunder Defense with seven total tackles. Defensive linemen David Marshall had one pass break-up and TJ Winslow had one tackle for loss. Defensive backs Reid Harrison-Ducros had two pass break-ups and Jermaine Robinson had one pass break-up. Kicker Parker Douglass made three out of five extra points.
The Sioux Falls Storm enter a bye week this week. The Storm return to action on August 14th for a battle against the Iowa Barnstormers.
