Fifth-Inning Slam Propels Midland Past 'Riders

FRISCO, TEXAS (June 18, 2013) - The Frisco RoughRiders dropped game three of their series with the Midland RockHounds 9-4 Tuesday night at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Frisco gave up an early lead, losing the first game of the season second half.

Leading off the first, Teodoro Martinez singled to right, Guilder Rodriguez walked and Mitch Moreland singled right, loading the bases. Alex Buchholz knocked an RBI single and later in the frame, Tomas Telis singled right to bring Rodriguez home from third as Frisco (0-1, 39-32) took a 2-0 lead.

Carlos Pimentel struggled in the fifth, leading off the inning hitting David Freitas by the pitch. Dusty Coleman and Beau Taylor walked to load the bases, and then Darwin Perez walked to bring in the RockHounds' (1-0, 34-37) first run. Later in the frame, D'Arby Myers singled to tie the game, and then Jake Goebbert knocked a grand slam over the right wall, to give Midland a 6-2 lead.

In the eighth, Vinnie Catricala got hit by the pitch, stole second and reached third on a wild pitch. Chad Oberacker then hit a flyout RBI to extend Midland's lead 7-2.

Rodriguez led off the eighth with a single to left. Moreland then doubled to left, bringing home the runner from first. Later in the frame, Telis knocked a single to score Moreland, closing the Frisco lead 7-4.

Midland added two runs to their lead in the ninth with a bases-loaded walk and a one-out groundout, extending the score 9-4, which was the final score.

Rangers' second baseman Moreland went 3-for-4 with a single, two doubles and a flyout to deep center.

Murphy Smith (6-7) allowed three runs off eight hits in seven innings and struck out three to earn the victory, while Carlos Pimentel (7-4) gave up six runs in 4.2 innings with three strikeouts to suffer the defeat.

The 'Riders continue their series with the Midland RockHounds Wednesday at 11:05 a.m. at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Tyler Tufts (1-1, 3.38 ERA) makes the start for the 'Riders against Midland right-hander Zach Neal (5-4, 3.51 ERA).
